Kiss at the Cove (Corsair's Cove Chocolate Shop Book 1) by [McKenzie, Lee]

Book 1 in the Corsair’s Cove Chocolate Shop novella series!

Life is like a chocolate-covered cherry—glossy on the outside; a sweet, sticky mess inside.
Two Mr. Wrongs don’t make a right. That’s why Prudence Parker has ended her engagement—twice. But she loves weddings and believes in happily ever after—which is a good thing, since she’s the only wedding planner in Corsair’s Cove, and the quaint coastal town is a popular Pacific Northwest destination for couples tying the knot.

And, with its history of pirates, ghosts and assorted ne’er-do-wells, Corsair’s Cove is a charming place to call home. After being stood up at the altar, marine biologist Spencer MacKewan moves to the Cove to accept a position at the research station. The wedding-that-wasn’t has left him more relieved than brokenhearted, and he’s determined not to make that mistake twice. Falling for Pru Parker is definitely not in the plan. Then trouble comes in the form of a chocolate shop, an inheritance gone wrong, and a clutch of long-lost cousins. When Pru’s plans for the rest of her life begin to crumble, will Spencer help her pick up the pieces?

There’s more than salt in the air at Corsair’s Cove. Desperately fighting an old curse, the pirate ghost known as the Wolf of the West must help the last descendants of Blackthorne blood find true love, or vanish forever on Hallowe’en night. But this is a quest like no other. Even a skilled sea captain will run into heavy weather when he tries to push the gun-shy and the twice-burned into each other’s arms…

I’ve never read anything by this author and the blurb caught my attention. This first book had a nice introduction to the cast of characters and her description of the location had me feeling like I was at The Cove. I did like the story but I had a hard time connecting to the main characters in the story as a couple. The author provided background on both Pru and Spencer separately but I just wasn’t feeling their connection as a couple. I needed more development between the two characters as their relationship grew. As the story certain events happen and I am somewhat curious to see how things will pan out going forward. I’m also hoping for more paranormal/supernatural elements as the series progresses.
