We pick up right when we left after the ending of This Is War and, as expected, things for Viola and Travis are bound to get only more complicated.
As the story develops, their relationship keeps evolving and the old feelings are rediscovered, realization comes to both of them and the struggle to hide what they feel for each other becomes a challenge as her brother Drew becomes suspicious.
We see a lot of the secondary characters. Drew’s ups and downs about his relationship with Mia and Viola’s friend Courtney, but how could you not love the daring, free spirited southern belle?
I like the way this book is written. It’s fast paced, full of surprises and unexpected turns to the very end. I found myself riding an emotional roller-coaster through the last half of the book as I identified myself with so much of it, but what a great ride it was! Things come alight, all relationships are put to the test and the longest, strongest friendship comes to suffer.
I have to say I liked this part better than the first and I’m looking forward to the next story of the Checkmate series. J
So after the first book I was a little hesitant starting this one. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised and loved this story!! In this book both Travis and Viola do a tremendous amount of growing and I love seeing that in a book couple. Of course we have some drama as expected with the way the first book ended. What I loved was that it was too over the top. I dislike when books have drama just for the sake of having drama. Travis has done a complete 180 which I loved. He stopped at nothing when it came to his woman! It was nice to see the caring and sweet side of him. Don’t get me wrong he’s still has a mouth on him but he became the lovable jerk I knew he could be!! Viola, my girl had more of a backbone in this story and I loved her sassy attitude!! Her and Travis have become one of my favorite book couples. This story had it all romance, low angst, laughable and sweet moments. I can’t wait to read about her brother Drew. I’m hoping he gets his act together ASAP!!
