After witnessing the violent murder of her parents, Etain Rhys is mysteriously transported to the realm of the Alamir.  There she will be taken in and trained by a small clan, but she’ll keep moving during the following years until making it to the clan of the LOKI, the Lords and Ladies of Kaos.  There she’ll associate with the powerful chieftain, Lord Darknight, said to be the last of the Krymerian race and they’ll embark in a whirlwind of adventure.

I decided to review this book because this is not my usual genre and the blurb was attractive enough.  Unfortunately, I realized early on this was not going to be something I liked.

I tried really hard to understand everything that was going on, but I couldn’t wrap my head around it.  There were too many things going on and the way the book is written didn’t help me at all.  The constant jumping between the characters and the impossibility to find a flow made the story extremely confusing for my taste.

There’s a duality to the characters that makes it really hard to relate to them, it was even harder to keep up with where they were with the constant moving between realms and the whole story was incongruent at best.  To make matters worse, I figured out where the plot was heading too soon and I even have a good idea of things that’ll come to light later in the series.

I also understand it’s fantasy, but the whole story seemed farfetched even for fantasy and, though it’s a series, I’ve read plenty of series to know you can give the semblance of closure to things that will be revisited in future books, not just leave them hanging, like the girl that spends almost the last half of the book sleeping.

In conclusion, it didn’t meet my expectations and I won’t be coming back.
