Review: Sins of Sevin by Penelope Ward
From the New York Times bestselling author of Stepbrother Dearest, comes a new forbidden STANDALONE romance.
What happens when the one you want is the only one you can’t have?
It was set in stone. Elle and I were getting married. After years of rebelling against everything good and wholesome, I finally gave in and took up with a nice girl.
After a long-distance relationship, I moved into her family’s guesthouse so we could spend time together in the months before the wedding.
Elle was unlike anyone I’d ever been with. She was so innocent, and I had to respect her choice to wait until after we were married to have sex.
I’d accepted that as my fate–even learned to control my desires.
Until I met her…the one.
That was when restraint became a problem…especially since “the one” wasn’t Elle.
It was her sister, Evangeline.
And I was screwed.
Told in alternating points of view, Sins of Sevin is a full-length standalone novel.
Sevin comes from a super religious family and everything has been arranged for him to marry Elle. After a few months of courtship he moves in with her and meets her sister, Evangeline, who he has an immediate connection with. Elle is madly in love and planning her future with Sevin. As the story progresses they both try to fight their attraction to each other but it’s a lost cause. They know they shouldn’t but they can’t help the way they feel about each other. As soon as they think they have everything figured out the unthinkable happens. Talk about plot twist!! I didn’t see that coming and was like this is the beginning of the end.
As the story unfolds things go from bad to worse for Sevin, Evangeline and Elle. This story was filled with a whole lot of angst, secrets and betrayals. I mean majority of the book I found myself gasping, calling Evangeline stupid and feeling so sorry for Sevin and Elle.
“But for someone who grew up without any kind of affection, sex was the closest thing I had to love, the closest thing to a connection with another human being.”
“Don’t ever leave me again.”
In books I always find myself rooting for the heroine but this time around I was all for Sevin. Sevin had a lot of baggage and despite it all he tried to be the best man he could be. I know, I know if he’s in love with his girlfriend’s sister how could he be? But trust me he has a heart of gold. He just needed and wanted love, acceptance and a place to call home. Don’t we all?
Evangeline, ugh, she infuriated me so much! I felt a lot of her actions and decisions when it came to certain things were selfish. She hurt a lot of people by her actions and I wanted to shake her! She didn’t deserve Sevin but to each their own.
This book was definitely not what I expected by Penelope Ward. As a fan of her later books this one took me for a wild ride and I loved every second of it! If you are looking for an emotional roller coaster look no further! I highly recommend adding the audio narration it truly did enhance the story. The narrators were able to capture the emotions throughout the story perfectly.
