Review: Royally Matched by Emma Chase
Some men are born responsible, some men have responsibility thrust upon them. Henry Charles Albert Edgar Pembrook, Prince of Wessco, just got the motherlode of all responsibility dumped in his regal lap.
He’s not handling it well.
Hoping to force her grandson to rise to the occasion, Queen Lenora goes on a much-needed safari holiday—and when the Queen’s away, the Prince will play. After a chance meeting with an American television producer, Henry finally makes a decision all on his own:
Welcome to Matched: Royal Edition.
A reality TV dating game show featuring twenty of the world’s most beautiful blue bloods gathered in the same castle. Only one will win the diamond tiara, only one will capture the handsome prince’s heart.
While Henry revels in the sexy, raunchy antics of the contestants as they fight, literally, for his affection, it’s the quiet, bespectacled girl in the corner—with the voice of an angel and a body that would tempt a saint—who catches his eye.
The more Henry gets to know Sarah Mirabelle Zinnia Von Titebottum, the more enamored he becomes of her simple beauty, her strength, her kind spirit…and her naughty sense of humor.
But Rome wasn’t built in a day—and irresponsible royals aren’t reformed overnight.
As he endeavors to right his wrongs, old words take on whole new meanings for the dashing Prince. Words like, Duty, Honor and most of all—Love.
Prince Henry’s life has been upended. The former spare heir is now the Crown Prince of Wessco and doesn’t have a clue what to do with that which is fast leading him towards the mother of all breakdowns.
By Nicholas’ suggestion and in order to help him settle in his new role as future king, Queen Lenora sends him away, but when Henry starts feeling a bit abandoned, he decides reviving his party playboy persona is the way to go and what better way to start a party than enrolling himself for a dating reality TV show, right?
Lady Sarah Von Titebottum is a bespectacled, shy, librarian whois not interested in being part of the show, but when her mother conditions the participation of her sister Penelope, she agrees to go as the younger sister’s assistant as long as she can remain away from the cameras.
Once the cameras start rolling, Henry will discover reality TV is not so real and that everything he needs is the company of the one person who really gets him, the one hiding in the room with the reading nook.
I have to start by saying that Henry completely stole my heart. The wild prince is not only handsome and sexy, but he is kind, sweet, talented and romantic and, when he finally finds his way, he assumes his responsibilities as a man should: head on.
“Henry has never been one to rise to the occasion,” she states plainly. “He’s never needed to,” my brother insists. “He’s never been asked – not once in his whole life. Until now. And he will not only rise to the occasion…he will soar beyond it.”
Sarah on the other hand, is a dreamer, but as shy and fragile as she seems, she’s strong inside and has a great sense of humor.
As a couple Henry and Sarah are beyond perfect. They complement each other in the most amazing ways. While he shows her how to let go and free herself of her inhibitions, she grounds him and allows him to become the protector he must learn to be.
“Rock bottom changes you. Glimpsing heaven changes you more. I’ve touched perfection, I’ve felt its arms around me and though she’s slipped away, she’s out there, just beyond my reach. Waiting for me to get off my arse and get my shit together. To prove myself. To become the man…and the king…she deserves.”
This book is full of laugh out loud moments, but there are many gripping moments as well. Henry and Sarah are both somehow broken, but they make each other strong and find a love that will conquer any obstacle in the end.
Needless to say, I loved this book from beginning to end. The characters, the plot,
and the way it’s written…the fairy tale of the little broken prince who is destined to become king.
There are meetings in books that stand out, that alter the course of the story. Profound encounters between characters when one soul seems to say to the other, “There you are – I’ve been looking for you.”
