Book Review: You’ll Never Believe What Happened to Lacey: Crazy Stories about Racism by Amber Ruffin & Lacey Lamar
Thank you Grand Central Publishing for my free book.
My thoughts:
As a Black woman this book hit home for me on several occasions. I laughed at some stories because I knew what was coming l, as I had been in those type of situations myself over the years. I also cringed because some of the stories took place in the late 2010’s and it’s like how ignorant can you still be at this point in your life? SMDH. Then again it’s 2021 and things still aren’t that better so I shouldn’t be surprised. This book did bring up some tough memories for me, but it’s nice to see that sadly I’m not alone when it comes to the Black experience in America.
About the Book:
Writer and performer on Late Night with Seth Meyers Amber Ruffin writes with her sister Lacey Lamar with humor and heart to share absurd anecdotes about everyday experiences of racism.
This sounds like an interesting read. I love books that reflect or parallel my own experiences. It’s like when you have a conversation with others from your culture and share anecdotes about growing up as a Black person. Or what Caribbean parents are like LOL. Although here in Canada the situation isn’t quite the same, it is still very similar so I’m sure this book would speak to me in many ways too!
