Also in this series: A Duke by DefaultRegina Hobbs is nerdy by nature, businesswoman by nurture. She's finally taking her pop culture-centered media enterprise, Girls with Glasses, to the next level, but the stress is forcing her to face a familiar supervillain: insomnia. The only thing that helps her sleep when things get this bad is the deep, soothing voice of puzzle-obsessed live streamer Gustave Nguyen. The problem? His archive has been deleted.
Gus has been tasked with creating an escape room themed around a romance anime…except he knows nothing about romance or anime. Then mega-nerd and anime expert Reggie comes calling, and they make a trade: his voice for her knowledge. But when their online friendship has IRL chemistry, will they be able to escape love?
Review:
I was really excited to see that we would be getting about Reggie. For those that don’t know, Reggie is Portia’s twin sister and you can read about Portia in A Duke by Default. I liked the fact that even though they are twins, they are so different. Reggie is a full time blogger, content creator and geek. I loved how she’s into comics, certain fandom’s and attends comic conventions. I myself do a lot of these things so it was very refreshing to say the least.
Gus is a cutie who is socially awkward and blunt. At first I wasn’t sure how it would work but it did. I liked that both couples followed their own path and are passionate about things most people wouldn’t give the time of day.
I’ve been on a quest for more diverse reads and not only did this book feature an interracial couple, the heroine is in a wheel chair and I loved how the author portrayed Reggie as strong and independent and not needing anyone especially a man to take care of her like she was helpless.
It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of the series and Alyssa Cole sucked me in again with this well written novella. I loved the story and the uniqueness of the characters.
